Save me from the stinky pitties!

Okay, so summer is great, and I myself don't wear anti-perspirant, so occasionally I get stinky. To mitigate that, I shower every night, shave my pits, and carry a pump with witch hazel spray to kill off any stinky bacteria when I do get a little sweaty. It works most of the time. Other folks don't seem to be as conscious of this little detail, and it's ever so important in the summer.

A week or so ago, I was in the fitting room at Ross. Someone in there had body odor so bad that it stunk up the entire room, even with the A/C blasting to the point of goosebumps. Kinda made shopping less fun. A lot less fun.

And I don't know, I guess this year it's just bugging me a bit, but stinky pitties on dancers is a bad thing! Especially if it's early in the evening! I can understand it after an hour or two of dancing, but arriving stinky just sucks. It doesn't seem like too much to ask to not be overwhelmingly ripe at social events.

I understand dislike of anti-perspirants - all that aluminum blocking up your system and such - but that's not an excuse for not staying mostly clean. That stink - it's mostly caused by bacteria in your armpits. I don't want to smell your bacteria!

Ahem. Okay, I'm better now.

  • The alumnimum isn't IMO dangerous enough to go without. I too have tried the natural-deodorant thing and (obviously) regular washing, but in this climate, you just gotta bite the bullet.

  • Luckily, I don't so much. I quit using aluminum based anti-perspirants a few years ago, and the first few weeks were a shocking transition (stinky girl peee-yew!), but after that, it mellowed out substantially. I think some of the pent up stuff cleared out. Now I carry a witch hazel spritz to mitigate any especially warm days, and usually I don't get over-ripe. But man, some folks this summer. Whew! And it hasn't even been that warm!

  • Pit stink makes me want to run and hide from the person from whom it is emanating. Mark had a problem back in the day, but with my encouragement to shave, and a better choice of deodorants (Degree is good), the problem is gone.
