Electric Sports Car
All the buzz has been about this hot little sports car lately. Today Mark Morford opined on it in his column. But it does look like the auto industry failed to keep this one down, and I suspect this will be the next darling of the Hollywood set. The big downside is that it takes 3.5 hours to charge, rather than a ten minute stop at the gas station mid-road-trip, so it's great as long as you're going less than 250 miles. Still, I expect to see a lot of these cruising the streets of Los Feliz in the next five years, because ultimately plugging in to the grid is far more efficient than producing your own energy one car at a time. And even earthy, crunchy green folks love a sexy sports car once in a while.

In the three years I've owned my current car, I've only driven more than 250 miles in one trip once, on a road trip down to LA.
Maybe not indicative, but a 250 mile per charge limit isn't an obstacle, especially if, like other rechargables, you can get an 80% charge in 1/2 the full-charge time.
I love the idea that a mandated rest could create a resurgence for the highway towns like those that used to line Route 66. I could always spend a few hours in Solvang or San Louis Obispo on the way to LA. Now if only there were a great Bakersfield water park...

I'd love to get this car, if it weren't so far out of my price range. Hoping that they will take the money they make on their high-end sports car and use it to make an economy electric car.
California is a long state. 250 miles will get you pretty far. It will get you to Reno. San Luis Obispo is a great place, I went there a few weeks ago had a fun time.
I'm dreaming of carrying some solar panels and a stand in the trunk, and being able to charge anywhere you happen to be
