Worst Case Scenario

Rolling down 23rd. It's a thing I do every day. I know to pay attention to the kitties around Lisa's house. She's the local cat lady who takes care of all the strays. Out jets a black cat. I tried to stop. I prayed the cat would run between the tires. But then there was the unmistakable bump.

I've never hit an animal before. She died.

Lisa, her owner, was there. The neighbors said it ran out of her car. I cried so hard I couldn't stand. She cried and cried. And the cat just died. Horribly. All my fault.

I came back home. Snuggling Leeloo. She's all for it. I'm going to need some time to pull it together. I'm definitely going to be late to Fezziwig's rehearsal.

  • Oh I'm so sorry!!! Wow...

I know it's really hard, but you've got to know it's not your fault.

  • Awwww, so sorry. I ran over a feral kitten that had been hiding in the flowerbed. Feels terrible and there's not much one can do.
    Big hug.

  • I used to drive my parents diesel Oldsmobile station wagon. The thing was enormous. It did not stop very quickly.

Just a few blocks from my parents house there was a catfight. The were creaming after each other across the road. I was going about 10mpg. I slammed on the brakes, but that didn't seem to help.

The owner came out in a only a towel soaking wet and held his dead cat and cried. I cried too. A lot. I wanted to apologise to this guy but the neighbors said, just leave him alone. I should have said *something* though.

The thing that has served these kitties for so long - darting away quickly - just gets them killed quickly. Its horrible. Nothing anyone says makes you feel any better either.

You feel responsible. How can you blame the kitty? But unless you were driving recklessly or gunning for the kitten its not something you can control.

Someday we will all have hovercars and it won't be a problem.

  • No. Not your fault at all. You posses only human reaction time, and physics plays it's role too.
